Fantoft Stave Church History De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is the first full-length studio album by Norwegian black metal band Mayhem. Songwriting began as early as 1987, but due to the suicide of vocalist Pelle and murder of guitarist Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth, the album's release was delayed until May 1994. At the time of Aarseth's murder, Vikernes was playing bass for Mayhem. Aarseth's mother reportedly asked Hellhammer (real name Jan Axel Blomberg), Mayhem's drummer, to remove the bass tracks that Vikernes had recorded for Mayhem's first full length studio album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.
